Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) — definition & why it matters | BrandGEO Glossary Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)
================================

Optimizing content to be selected as the direct answer by AI-powered answer engines.

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) is the discipline of structuring content so that answer engines — AI systems that respond with a single synthesized answer rather than a list of links — pick your content as their source. AEO overlaps heavily with GEO; in practice AEO emphasizes the content side (question-shaped headings, concise extractable answers, FAQ schema), while GEO covers the whole brand footprint across AI engines.

A useful test: take the questions your buyers actually ask an AI assistant, and check whether any passage on your site answers them in two or three quotable sentences. If not, there is nothing for the engine to extract or cite.
